Extra content posts

The rest of the year we’re going to build out some extra options to provide appendixes or extra information to the classic class and leveling pages. This will be mostly in the form of 1-off posts that can then be attached to current pages.

For example, LHQ doesn’t include a T3 raid build, a special Hardcore challenge build or a new things like a specific Survival instinct setup. They are useful and some readers would really like them. We’re going to try an experiment which allows us to add temporary, minor or external information in the form of posts-module that can be added to section of pages.

Example page

Very basic, but if you want to look at how it will appear while we’re experimenting you can take a look at https://lotrohq.com/test-view-posts/

Why and what it allows us to do

  • Posts are a lower “rank” than admin or editor. Allowing us to have extra people provide information if they want. Easier to create and they can’t break current pages.
  • Posts have options for categories and tags. That will allow us to filter specific posts on pages. For example, the test page now shows only “Beorning” category and red + raid tag.
  • Posts have a creation and edit time build-in.
  • Allows us to add quicker and smaller updates current pages

Examples of posts

Lower maintenance, quicker to create, small updates without conflating the class page. Possible posts that we’re thinking off.

  • A trait build that is specific for a tier or a specific boss provided by a knowledgeable person, but has no interest in writing a full guide for LHQ.
  • Survival instinct setup for Tanks that will show across all class pages of tanks, without manually adding it to every page. Or easily removed when not valid.
  • A specialized topic such as; leveling in landscape difficulty 3; legendary server; alternative trait line or legendary weapon setup.

What it won’t do

LotroHQ will remain focussed on leveling and low tier instances. We currently don’t have the people familiar enough to provide consistent end-game guides or specific T3 mushroom tactics for Folly etc. If we come across content that would be good for a posts, we’ll try these out. Hopefully this will allow us to provide extra information to the website visitors.

Where to do we find this extra information?

Many, many years ago all information was posted on a forum where everybody could read it. But these days a lot of it is scattered across the internet.

  • A selection of post on a private discord
  • Website by X that hasn’t been updated in a few years
  • Question asked by LHQ to a player that runs a hardcore challenge
  • A traitline and setup made for a high score on parse that’s not suited for general play, but might provide an insight to optimize your rotation
  • A live google doc that a person is still updating
